Designed for Multi-media Services, not just VOIP

VoIP is the baseline, but most service providers recognize that the key to creating new sources of revenue is through the delivery of new real time services such as IM, multimedia conferencing, Find-me/Follow-me, Click-to-Dial, presence-enabled applications, and others.

Eclipse works at the application-level to support multi-media collaboration applications like Microsoft Office Communicator (MOC) and Live Communication Server (LCS), not just VoIP applications. Eclipse supports all modes of OC/LCS communication (peer-to-peer audio, video, file transfer, telephony, phone control, conference control, etc) and value-added features such as IM, audio and video content recording and virus-scanning of OC/LCS based file transfers.

One example of being "designed for multimedia services" can be seen in our comprehensive approach to application-level security. As an access edge SBC Eclipse must provide security for many different real-time services including VoIP and video (encryption using TLS and SRTP) as well as for IM (virus scanning, content filtering, URL filtering, etc.).

Application-aware virus scanning: Eclipse detects IM-enabled file transfers, scans the files for viruses, and takes action—destroy, quarantine, repair, log alert—in accordance with administratively defined policies.




URL scanning: In another type of attack, a bogus IM, seemingly from a legitimate “buddy,” encourages the recipient to visit a certain web site. The web site downloads malicious code—a virus—into the recipient’s computer. To thwart this sort of attack, Eclipse scans incoming IMs, checks embedded URLs against a database of known virus sources, and exercises policy-based action against suspicious locations.




Content filtering: Eclipse can scan IMs and file transfers for sensitive or dangerous content—inappropriate language, trademarks, code names, account numbers—and takes policy-based action: delete content, create a log entry, alert management, etc.
